Troubleshooting: No DMX Output
This guide will walk you through a few possible solutions when experiencing no dmx output. The following causes are a few of the most common issues and are the easiest and quickest items to check.
Possible Causes
Showbaby or Pathport not working properly
Command wing not active in MA
Artnet output not active in MA
Before checking any of the steps below, it is best to confirm everything has been properly connected and confirmed to have power
Possible Cause 1
Sometimes the showbaby or pathport quattro is either not connected correctly, or is simply not powered on. You can confirm proper use by checking the front panel
of both of these units to see if the LED indicators are on, or blinking.
- If no LEDs illuminated, check power and confirm power is on
- If LEDs are blinking, check to ensure all cables are connected properly at both ends
See Images below
Possible Cause 2
No valid DMX being send from the lighting console.
Look to see if this icon is located in your command line. See image below
This icon indicates that there are not enough parameters available. See image below
In the event this icon is in your command line, you will want to try a few things
- Power cycle command wing - power switch located on the rear right side of the console
- If that does not resolve the issue, restart MA software
- If that does not resolve the issue, restart the PC and relaunch MAonPC
Possible Cause 3
Another cause of not having DMX output is that the Artnet Output is not active. Walk through the steps below to confirm that artnet output is confirmed active.
-
Press the SETUP hard key. If you notice that the outline of the Network Protocol menu option is red, that is an indication that artnet is not being sent. If it is green, that indicates that artnet is valid, however does not indicate that artnet output is active.
-
Select Network Protocol menu softkey to open the network protocol menu. On the right side of the screen you will see three softkeys, the middle softkey should be yellow to activate artnet output. See image below.
Hopefully this article has resolved the issue, if the issue has not yet been resolved please submit a tech support ticket. Thank You!
