How To: Use Camlock Feeder Cable to connect a Distro to a local power source.
This document will walk through how to properly and safely connect a Power distro using Camlock Feeder Cable to a Generator or 3 phase Camlock Service Disconnect.
Part 1 - Overview of components
Part 2 - Pre setup checklist
Part 3 - Connect feeder cable
Part 4 - Turn on power
***IMPORTANT***
If you have never done this before, do not attempt to do so on your own, even with this document. There must be a trained individual on site. If there is not, before proceeding, submit a Slack Tech Help Request. A member of the Tech Team will jump on a video call with you to ensure this set up is done correctly.
Part 1 - Overview of components
FEEDER
Feeder cable consists of 5 individual cables (sometimes banded together) with Camlock connectors on each end. The length of these cables will be specific to your location's distance between the distro and generator. A common configuration is for the Green and White cables to be run in the opposite direction from the Black, Red and Blue. This is to help prevent the cables from being incorrectly connected.
3 PHASE POWER
3 Phase power consists a ground, neutral, and three hot connections.
POWER DISTRO
Elevation Church's standard power distro is from Whirlwind and will look very similar to this.
Not every distro will have the second row of connection ports. These ports are for connecting additional distros or devices with 3 phase camlock connections.
Part 2 - Pre setup check list
Confirm the following is in place before proceeding.
-
Generator/Service disconnect is powered off.
- If using a Generator, ensure the camlock connections are covered in the event of rain.
- Power distro is powered off
- Power distro is in proper location (typically side stage)
- Inspect each cable in the feeder to verify there is no damage and the ends are secure.
Part 3 - Connect feeder cable
Step 1 - Connect the feeder at the Generator/Service Disconnect
-
Connect the cables in the following order. Ensure each cable is tightened 180º. This can sometimes be difficult, but do not use tools to tighten it all the way. Pliers or a wrench can damage the connector.
-
Occasionally Camlock turnarounds are needed.
- Green (Ground)
- White (Neutral)
- Black (Hot)
- Red (Hot)
- Blue (Hot)
Step 2 - Run the Feeder cable to the distro.
- Best practice is to leave any excess cable at the distro in the event the distro location needs to change.
Step 3 - Connect the feeder at the distro.
-
Connect the cables in the following order.
- Green (Ground)
- White (Neutral)
- Black (Hot)
- Red (Hot)
- Blue (Hot)
Part 4 - Turn on power
Step 1 - Turn on the Generator/Service Disconnect
***Important***
Before turning on power, ensure there are no exposed Camlock ends. If the distro has a second set of connectors, ensure the flaps cover the unused connections.
-
If using a Generator, refer to THIS document for instructions on how to properly start up a Sunbelt generator.
- Generator start up doc yet to be created
- If using a service disconnect, flip the main breaker.
-
Go to the distro. Before turning on the main distro breaker, verify the voltage meters on the distro are indicating the correct voltage levels. Click here to adjust voltage at the generator.

- Power on the distro main breaker.
