Mounting Directly to QXS (For Videographers & Audio Engineers)
There are two ways that people connect to QXS, also known as "The Server." You can connect via Command + K, which is recommended for designers, project managers, and working with small files. You can also mount directly to QXS, which is recommended for videographers, audio engineers, and people working with larger files.
If you have 10GB ethernet or fibre at your desk, do the following to set your computer up to mount QXS:
-
Download the Xsan Config profile: Click here to save the config profile, then open it to install it to your computer.
After opening, go to System Settings, Search "Profiles," click "Xsan Config Profile," and "Install."
This allows your computer to "see" QXS, so this has to be completed first.
-
Download the QXS Mount and Unmount apps: Click here to download a zip file Click here to download a zip file containing these apps, then unzip them.
These are shortcuts to allow you to quickly mount/unmount QXS. We recommend dragging them into your dock for easy access.
Once you've completed those two steps, use the following for best practice:
-
Mounting QXS: Click the green "Mount" app, then enter your password when prompted (twice). QXS will appear in Finder.
-
Unmounting QXS: Click the red "Unmount" app, then enter your password when prompted (once). QXS will disappear from Finder.
-
Please unmount QXS before you unplug your computer from your workstation. If you don't, Finder can hang up in a perpetual spinning pinwheel, forcing you to do a hard restart of your computer.
If you have followed all of the above steps and still cannot mount QXS, please submit an IT Support ticket and we will gladly troubleshoot the issue.
