Restoring a File or Directory from Archive (Stornext GUI)
The following is a step-by-step instruction to restore files from the Stornext GUI. If someone requests files to be restored, this is the most efficient way to do it -- navigating to the folder structure in Finder will auto-restore any files it sees within a folder, but Finder will show a pinwheel (and may lock up altogether) until the file has finished restoring.
Log in to the Stornext GUI
- In Chrome, open 10.1.42.143
- Login using the "admin" credentials found in LastPass
- It takes a while for the GUI to load. Only click "Login" once. Clicking again or refreshing will cause an error.
Start a Retrieve Job
- From the GUI home screen, click Tools, then File and Directory Actions.
- Under Available Actions, click the dropdown and select Retrieve Directory.
You can also click Retrieve File for an individual file, but it's more common to retrieve directories.
- Click Browse, then navigate to and select the folder you'd like to retrieve. Click Continue.
Note: Each retrieve job can only process one directory path. So pick one folder, complete the following steps, then repeat for any additional folders.
- Make sure the boxes are checked for Recursive and Update Access Times.
This will restore all files in the specified directory tree and update the storage policies to not re-archive the content until the allotted time has passed.
- Click Apply.
Monitor Jobs
- Shortly after starting the job, you should see a Jobs icon appear on the GUI home screen with a spinning circle, indicating your job is running.
- To monitor your job, click Reports, then Data Movement.
You will see the current object storage activity, specifically with Retrieve jobs representing your job.
- When the job is finished, you can click Reports, then Jobs, to see the final status of your job.
It should say Success next to your job. If it says Failure, click the job to see why it failed, then re-run the job.
