Connecting to the Server: It says my password is incorrect...
Are you trying to connect to the server using smb://qxs.echq, but it's telling you that your password is incorrect? But you *know* that you're using the correct password? Or maybe it was working for you yesterday, but all of a sudden it's telling you that your password is wrong?
Don't worry. You're not crazy. There is a bug with networking caches that is causing this.
Here are a couple things you can do to troubleshoot this:
- First, confirm you do have the right credentials:
User: firstname.lastname
PW: (your HQ credentials; what you'd use to login to myaccount.elevationchurch.org)
- Try restarting your computer, then reconnecting.
- If you're in the office, you can sometimes get around this by simply walking to a different part of the office. Your computer will connect to a new WiFi access point, and it may start working again.
*This is also known as the, "I swear it wasn't working, but when I walked to the Tech Desk, it started working again!" phenomenon.
If none of this works, you can delete the network password your computer has saved/cached for the server:
- Use the magnifying glass in the top-right corner of your computer to find & open Keychain Access.
- You'll be prompted to either open Passwords or Keychain Access. Choose "Open Keychain Access."
- Once you're in Keychain Access, search for the letters "qxs."
- Right-click smb://qxs.echq.org and select "Delete."
- Close Keychain Access, then try connecting to the server again.
If you still cannot connect, it's probably time to submit a ticket. Do that here, and the IT Team will be glad to assist.
